10 minutes of cleaning is enough: this is how the “Simply Clean” method works

“Simply Clean” is the name of a cleaning concept that promises a consistently clean home with just ten to 15 minutes of cleaning a day. Find out exactly how the method works here. One day of rest is included to play the Slotsgem.

Cleaning every day probably sounds relatively strenuous for most people. However, the “Simply Clean” method is designed to make cleaning easier for you. According to author Becky Rapinchuk’s how-to book, you no longer have to spend hours cleaning once a week, but instead divide the cleaning work into small chunks that are easy to manage every day.

So instead of slaving away for two hours or more once a week, you do a bit of cleaning work every day for just ten to 15 minutes. Depending on your preference, you can do this in the morning before work or before your evening routine, for example.

To make sure the method works and your home is really clean at the end of the week, the author has drawn up a precise weekly plan.

Simply Clean: Three cleaning categories

The Simply Clean method is designed to make cleaning less effort. The Simply Clean method is based on three categories in which daily, weekly and (bi)monthly or quarterly cleaning tasks are divided:

  • There are things you should do every day. These include: making the bed, tidying up, wiping down work surfaces, removing coarse dirt from the floors and (if necessary) doing the laundry.
  • Other tasks should be done once a week. You will find these in the next paragraph of the weekly schedule.
  • And finally, there are aspects that you only need to do once a month, every two months or quarterly (depending on your living situation and how dirty your home is). These include Cleaning the oven, cleaning or polishing furniture, cleaning windows and wiping down baseboards.

Simply Clean: The weekly schedule

According to Simply Clean, you should do some cleaning tasks every day. Simply Clean author Rapinchuk recommends dividing up cleaning tasks that need to be done once a week as follows:

Monday: clean the bathroom

Tuesday: dust

Wednesday: vacuum

Thursday: damp mop the floors

Friday: catch up on tasks you haven’t done yet

Saturday: wash bed linen and towels (if necessary)

Sunday: take a break

Whether you can actually do this every day in just ten to 15 minutes is debatable. But especially if the long cleaning session stresses you out every week, it could be helpful for you to work through a small step every day. Another advantage is that dirt and dust won’t take a week to accumulate. The apartment is therefore cleaner overall, and this alone will probably make cleaning quicker and easier for you.

Sustainable cleaning: How to do it

To clean as environmentally consciously as possible, you can follow these tips:

Replace expensive cleaning products with household products such as baking soda, citric acid, or vinegar. This will help you avoid harmful ingredients and save money and packaging waste. Alternatively, you can buy organic cleaning products.

A lot doesn’t necessarily help a lot! Generally, use detergents and cleaning products in moderation to save raw materials.

Use washable and reusable cloths and sponges for cleaning instead of disposable products. You don’t necessarily have to buy washcloths. You can also save old tea towels, T-shirts, and scraps of fabric from the garbage can and use them as wiping cloths.

Clean in the right order to be more efficient.
